Don Bloom writes:
<< Look at it this way:- You plant a seed in the ground and a plant comes up.
A man puts something into a woman and a baby grows. >>

In Anatolian and Greek mythology, if the "seed" was divine you didn't
even need a woman. Hephaistos gets a wad of combed wool "pregnant", the
severed genitals
and spilled semen of Ouranos grows in the sea foam, and in the
Hittite/Hurrain Song of Kumarbi a male god gets pregnant with another god's
semen. Kumarbi has just defeated and deposed Anu and is chasing Anu into the
heavens. Grabbing Anu by the legs, Kumarbi bites off Anu's genitals and
swallows. Anu laughs at Kumarbi and Kumarbi asks him why. Anu replies that
Kumarbi has just impregnated himself with Anu's seed. Then Anu departs and
leaves Kumarbi trying to spit out as much of Anu's seed as possible. The
text gets fragmentary at this point, but what Kumarbi spits out also seems to
grow. And the gods that grow inside Kumarbi are the next generation to rise
up against him.
