It seems that the discussion in the focus groups should be driven by the research questions that Admissions is interested in. For example, maybe they want to know more about how the freshmen experienced the administrative aspects of the admissions processes (deadlines, forms that had to be submitted, etc.) or if your institution does things like campus visit days for potential freshmen and their families, perhaps they want to know about that.
A good way to get started might be a mini-focus group with the admissions staff and then pull your questions from that.

Subject: [ASSESS:] Admissions/Marketing Focus Groups
Our admissions/marketing department would like to conduct focus groups this year with our incoming freshmen. Does anyone have sample questions they would be willing to share?
I will be showing some marketing pieces and videos to get their feedback, but I also wanted to ask additional questions outside the marketing materials.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated! Thank you and have a happy Friday!
