The great woman of Shunam honored Elisha by putting in an upper room for his
use & the rich Eglon rested in the upper room in the heat of the day. Rahab
hid the spies in the flax she was drying on the roof (no mention of a room, I
think), and of course Bathsheba took her famous evening bath on the roof,
which seems to have served specifically as a _Mikveh_, from the context.

In a message dated 97-10-16 11:21:13 EDT, you write:
<< Or is the upper room simply a dining room (hence, the
location of the Last Supper)? At Acts 1:13-14, the disciples are staying
in an upper room in Jerusalem, and the Marys are specifically mentioned as
being present>>
<< "upper-rooms" in Palestine at that time were extra rooms built on the roof
fror whatever the homeowner needed it for. Much as we would now finish a
 basement or attic. >>
