The deadline for submitting abstracts for the 1998 Women's Classical
Caucus panel for the AIA/APA meeting in Washington, DC, has been
extended until *February 13*; the call for papers is listed below.

***************************************************
Call for Papers: WCC Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Panel
Feminism and Classics: A Retrospective/Prospective Assessment

Panel Coordinators: Barbara F. McManus <[log in to unmask]> and Ann
C. Suter <[log in to unmask]>

Much has been accomplished; much still needs to be done!

We wish to assess the influence of feminism on the discipline of
classics and on classical professional standards and organizations, and
also to determine what new directions and initiatives are needed. We
encourage submissions from a range of specialities (e.g., philology,
history, archaeology, art history). The topics for papers may be quite
diverse and may focus on people, institutions, areas of classical
scholarship, or theoretical issues. Papers may emphasize one detailed
study or numerous examples treated concretely but with less detail, but
they should combine specific illustration with some form of overview
assessment. We hope to present a range of papers, including some whose
focus is primarily retrospective (what has been accomplished? by whom?
in what manner? how do we know?) and some whose focus is prospective
(what still needs to be done? what is the best way to do it?).

The new deadline for abstracts is *February 13, 1998.* Abstracts (of
500-800 words, including bibliography) should be anonymous, with no
identifying references to their authors. Send five copies of the
abstract with a cover letter to Cynthia Dessen, 1100 Willow Drive,
Chapel Hill NC 27514 <[log in to unmask]>
