If they are pancakes and tails out you could leave them on the
pancakes after transfer. I use NAB hub adaptors that hold the flanges
well enough without using the screws. If you wish to store the tapes
on reels (preferred from an archival perspective), then I would
prefer metal reels to plastic reels in the 10.5-inch size...which is
what I think you're discussing.
